Lend Your Ears + Open Your Eyes
EndedA celebration of the art behind the music industry
Original album artwork, music photography and other visual arts were brought together in this celebration of the art behind the music industry.
“Lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and... stop thinking. Just ask yourself whether the work has enabled you to 'walk about' into a hitherto unknown world. If the answer is yes…what more do you want?” - Wassily Kandinsky
Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s passion for the crossover of music and art, this show was a moment to celebrate the importance and beauty of the visual arts in the music industry.
Musicians and artists have collaborated throughout history: James Abbott McNeill Whistler and Claude Debussy, Marc Chagall and the Ballet Russes, Salvador Dali and Alice Cooper, Jay-Z and Marina Abramović, and countless album artwork collaborations. The visual arts have consistently played a role in promoting and contextualising music performance.
This show shined a light on the collaborations of today. It was a moment to put the art of the music industry at the front of the stage. It was a moment to celebrate the beauty and importance of that key creative partner. It was a moment to lend your ears to music and open your eyes to the visual arts.
The Auction Collective also partnered with Art Vinyl to exhibit the 50 finalists of the Best Art Vinyl Award 2019 during the auction.
