Young Russian Artists: The Rite of Spring

The Distracted Observation series investigates human interaction with the unknown and intangible – things like hyperobjects, ghosts, a belief in vampires, and black holes – and whether this interaction can be benevolent or even symbiotic.

"The subjects of my work observe and study unknown objects, like strange living organisms. Observations occur at various levels, both through attempts to acquire scientific knowledge and through sensory experience.

Some works resemble documentation or sketches of experiments in which the researcher and object of observation subtly change places – as the researcher becomes the object."  - Slava Nesterov, 2020.
