Women in Art - Raising the Bar
15 FEBRUARY 2022 - 08 MARCH 2022Notes
Recurring themes in Jill's work are investigations into mortality and ageing, human idiosyncrasy, diversity and theatricality which are infinite mines of inspiration. There are also series of works which celebrate the unloved... the Minotaur and Rats, both of which often instill culturally embedded fear and dread, sentiments the pieces attempt to subvert with a sympathetic portrayal and the use of precious Goldleaf.
She draws on historical and classical sources, mythology, dark folklore and theatre which help feed the moodboard of her own imagination.
Pyrrhic Danse was inspired by Greek ceremonial performance which harnessed martial movement to became ritual choreography.
