This was a difficult painting because I wanted to bring my two worlds together – Suffolk, UK and Cranberry Island, Maine, USA. These items were never together. Some are things I see in Maine and some are things I have here. One was painted, actually painted, with gouache so it would look like something else. Not only that, but the still life was also knocked over, the place flooded with flower water and at the beginning I thought I had forgotten how to paint.

Notes
Daughter of a textile artist, I am obsessed with pattern and colour. I collect stuff that might inspire me and use the things I assemble to tell stories that might be true. Egg tempera allows me to layer colour, to find edges make different kinds of marks. It also dries quickly and that suits my temperament.
