26 OCTOBER 2023 - 17 NOVEMBER 2023Notes
Feedback is a living archive of Gaspar’s ongoing community-based site interventions at and around Cook County Jail since 2012. This self-published compendium comprises five screen-printed posters and a 7" vinyl record. The die-cut posters include short essays, critical pedagogy, original artwork, and poetry. Contributors include nationally recognized writers, locally celebrated cultural leaders, educators, artists, and Radioactive Ensemble members (formerly and currently incarcerated men at Cook County Jail).
Maria Gaspar is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice addresses issues of spatial justice to amplify, mediate, or divert structures of power through individual and collective gestures. Gaspar’s awards include the Guggenheim Fellowship, the United States Artists Fellowship, the Creative Capital Award, Latinx Fellowship, and others. Gaspar is an Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She received a MFA from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2009.
