"I am interested in recording the process of painting by deliberately leaving individual  brushstrokes as traces of repeated enquiry."

This work was painted from life in one sitting alla prima - a technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to the canvas before the previous layers have a chance to dry.

Lucy Stopford was an exhibitor at the BP Portrait Awards. Lucy has a BA in Fine Art from Leeds University. Her work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery and Mall Galleries.
