"This painting was inspired by the Cotswolds in summer; as with many of my paintings, its title makes an intentionally ambiguous reference to our relationship with the landscape."

Working from a number of preparatory sketches the painter Rob Murray allows the final painted scene to develop naturally and instinctively into an imagined landscape.

"I work in mixed media, combining acrylics, oils, graphite, pastel, enamel spray paint and a wide variety of other materials – all of which have their own properties and interact with each other in exciting ways. My goal is always to evoke the sensory and emotional experience of being within the landscape – I’m less concerned with producing an 'accurate' depiction of a place, and more interested in communicating how it felt to be there."  

Accolades

Born in Portsmouth Rob Murray is a self-taught painter. In recent years, his work has been shortlisted for prizes and shows including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Columbia Threadneedle Prize and the National Open Art Competition.

Rob's work has been sold through a number of galleries and group exhibitions, including venues in Mayfair, Kent, Surrey and Oxfordshire. His paintings are held in private collections in the UK, Europe and USA.
