Notes
The artwork of the award winning artist Sarah Maple, is bold, brave, mischievous and can be wildly controversial.
In a Guardian interview about her art book of the same title 'You Could have Done This', Sarah reflected on her recent show that included a self-portrait of her in a hijab smoking a cigarette and, in another, cuddling a pig.
"That’s the one that got the main abuse. Someone threw a brick through my window. Then I started getting death threats."
Sarah challenges notions of identity, religion and the status quo. Much of her inspiration originates from being brought up as a Muslim, with parents of mixed religious and cultural backgrounds.
