Notes
This work is a reinterpretation of a 16th century portrait by Italian artist, Agnolo di Cosimo di Mariano, also known as Bronzino.
The original image, Portrait of a Young Man, was created in the 1530s and depicts a literary friend of the artist holding open a collection of poetry. The work is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
As seen with Reading the Book, Jonathan Schofield takes inspiration from the past, the present and his own memories of time and place. He amalgamates and translates these fragments with his naturally vibrant and fluid style.
