Notes
These sculptures are a modern day representation of drawings made in 1564.
London-based artist, Rory Menage, combines his deep understanding of art history with modern day artistic techniques to form a unique approach to sculpture.
These figures are a 3D realisation of drawings first made in 1564 by the German painter and goldsmith Heinrich Lautensack. Lautensack's Perspectiva drawings were ground breaking. To understand anatomical movement, he simplified the human form into a mass of blocks that twisted on their axes. This innovative approach surpassed previous anatomical imaginings by Albrecht Dürer and Leonardo da Vinci.
Inspired by this 16th century approach to movement, Rory set about bringing Lautensack's figures to life in these polished bronze figures.
Rory is also including a larger work in the auction, Turned Head III.
