The Hands Up Foundation Fundraiser Curated by Cramer & Bell
20 MARCH 2023 - 31 MARCH 2023Notes
‘Dialogues between the themes in my work, both literary and aesthetic, over the last few years are reconfigured in this selection of prints. Archetypal motifs of a house, flower, tree or cloud, recur in various forms, their suggested impermanence being of significance in each case.’ - Katherine Jones
Though not conceptual in the traditional sense, Jones’ work is in equal parts research and process-led. Her inspirations range from the work of writers such as Janet Frame and Lydia Davis, to painters Georgia O’Keeffe and Prunella Clough, and mythical characters such as the Slavic witch Baba Yaga. These diverse strands are intertwined with an ongoing fascination with observing and recording the slow germination of plants in the artist’s South London allotment, where many of the preliminary drawings for the prints in this collection were originally made.
