Notes
Alice Watkins' nostalgic portraits are based on great women of 20th Century literature and art. With a painterly style that is loose and sparse, and a colour palette which casts a veils over reality, they are given a timeless quality. We are invited to consider these well known figures as individuals with a certain degree of familiarity - they are titled with just their first names. Fantasy, history, story telling and personal intrigue combine to produce an unexpected take on figures that we collectively have respect and admiration for.
