Terrence Higgins Trust, The Timed Auction 2021
18 FEBRUARY 2021 - 11 MARCH 2021Notes
Melissa Kime was born in Wiltshire in 1989 and lives and works in London. She studied at University College Falmouth and Royal College of Art. She exhibited in Bloomberg New Contemporaries, 2014 at the ICA London and won the Arts Club award at The Royal Academy Summer Show, 2019. She has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad in both solo and group shows, and her work is in many private collections.
The magic of the everyday weaves itself into Kime’s paintings in the form of mysterious haunted landscapes, allegorical animals, hag stones or interestingly cut rocks found on the foreshore of the River Thames. These objects are placed alongside fictitious characters – hybrid angels, witches, fawns and devils who live in a surreal collaged fable revealing stories from timeless folkloric traditions – creating a history that endeavours to root us into our concrete forever foundations.
