Terrence Higgins Trust, The Timed Auction 2021
18 FEBRUARY 2021 - 11 MARCH 2021Notes
“This artwork was one of the first pastels from a series of still life drawings made by Poppy from 2019-20. The subjects of the drawings were all everyday, domestic items or found objects from Poppy’s home in Ireland. These were some dried flowers on the kitchen table and this drawing marked a change in her work; a moment where, alongside her more representational portraiture, she began to incorporate pieces with a greater sense of narrative into her practice – something that she is continuing to strive towards today.” - Poppy BH, 2021
Poppy BH is an artist, illustrator and writer working in between her studio in Peckham and her home in Northern Ireland. Beginning as an oil-portrait painter, her work has slowly evolved to include a diverse subject matter and a wide range of materials. Throughout her practice, whether it be painting or drawing, there is a common theme of playfulness and simplicity, achieved through strong mark-making and bold colours or shapes. In depicting her subjects thus, she has moved away from purely representational pieces towards ones that incorporate narrative and weigh in on the sentimental significance of her chosen subjects.
