Terrence Higgins Trust, The Timed Auction 2021

"This artwork is part of a series of linoprints I made recently. I started drawing flowers and still lives during the first lockdown in early spring 2020, when flower shops were closed. When they reopened, the simple joy of a fresh, colourful bunch of tulips felt so profound. Working on a small scale was a way to stay creative during these times. After a while though, I wanted something more and linocut was a possible way to progress given the restrictions. I had previously used screen printing, etching or digital print, but never tried linocut and I found it so enjoyable that I have kept going ever since.

I am interested in the small as much as I am interested in the big questions of life. ‘What are we doing with our lives?’ is just as important as the question of ‘what’s for dinner tonight?’. Because it all makes up the reality of today. And this is what I am looking at. There is so much beauty in the mundane, there is so much to notice in those small moments and things that are usually overlooked." - Theresa Goessmann, 2020
