Terrence Higgins Trust - 2023, Timed Auction
27 FEBRUARY 2023 - 10 MARCH 2023Notes
Philip Michael Wolfson studied architecture at Cornell University, and at the Architectural Association, London, where he was discovered by Zaha Hadid.
In 1991, Wolfson established his own studio and has worked throughout Europe and the USA on interiors and art pieces.
These two pieces are taken from the series of works ‘NewLands and Flowers – MAPS’, and are abstract cartographic examinations of movement and urban development, and their associated ‘Red Squares’ which are the generating centres of power, influence and domination.
These maps represent a remote, alternate reality. They are views of our world as seen through an augmented lens; one of innocence, one free from predetermined ideas, unfettered by the malignancies of the metropolis. Growth, Blossom, Decay: Stages of Nature/Life and Urban/Power. In an alternate reality, we can question the rights and wrongs that are to be instituted and imposed – be it natural or made by man.
In addition to the choice of either MAPS - New York or MAPS - Rome, The Vatican, Wolfson is offering to paint a different city of your choice on request and a tour of his Epping studio for up to 8 guests.
