27 JUNE 2022 - 14 JULY 2022Notes
Adam Robinson’s work reflects his passion for colour, found materials and the processes of collecting and arranging. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources with architecture and the built environment being particularly influential.
The found and sometimes forgotten materials he uses, with their strong sense of nostalgia and history, are a further source of inspiration and fascination to him. He aims to transform these objects such that they exist in a more contemporary and ordered context with a clean, vibrant aesthetic.
In this work, ‘Little Red House’, Robinson displays a collection of original, vintage US postcards arranged on canvas in a geometric pattern. Produced in the 1930’s and 40’s and collected from a variety of sources, these postcards feature sunken centres that leave behind raised frames mirroring the frame of the artwork itself. The arrangement forms a narrative journey through natural settings to the red school house featured prominently in the second column.
Since graduating in Australia with a degree in Theatre Design he has worked primarily in television as an Art Director but now focuses on his art practice. Adam Robinson is represented by Select Gallery in Notting Hill, has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and art fairs both in London and New York, and has been highlighted by Rebecca Wilson, chief curator at Saatchi Art, as One to Watch.
