27 JUNE 2022 - 14 JULY 2022Notes
Adam Robinson’s work reflects his passion for colour, found materials and the processes of collecting and arranging. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources with architecture and the built environment being particularly influential.
The found and sometimes forgotten materials he uses, with their strong sense of nostalgia and history, are a further source of inspiration and fascination to him. He aims to transform these objects such that they exist in a more contemporary and ordered context with a clean, vibrant aesthetic.
In this work, ‘Homemaker’, Robinson uses original segments of Homemaker magazine covers from the 1950’s, combined with painted sections of canvas and wooden strips. The colour palette is drawn from the pastels featured in the printed material and the work has been inspired by British post-war architecture. This pattern resembles an apartment block with windows displaying people engaging in household tasks along with other domestic features.
Since graduating in Australia with a degree in Theatre Design he has worked primarily in television as an Art Director but now focuses on his art practice. Adam Robinson is represented by Select Gallery in Notting Hill, has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and art fairs both in London and New York, and has been highlighted by Rebecca Wilson, chief curator at Saatchi Art, as One to Watch.
