Studio Sale | Adam Robinson
27 JUNE 2022 - 14 JULY 2022Notes
Adam Robinson’s work reflects his passion for colour, found materials and the processes of collecting and arranging. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources with architecture and the built environment being particularly influential.
The found and sometimes forgotten materials he uses, with their strong sense of nostalgia and history, are a further source of inspiration and fascination to him. He aims to transform these objects such that they exist in a more contemporary and ordered context with a clean, vibrant aesthetic.
In this work, ‘East Side of Horseshoe Falls’, Robinson displays a collection of original, vintage postcards arranged on canvas. Originally black and white photos taken in the 1930’s, the images were then hand-tinted before being printed for sale to tourists. Sourced from flea markets in New York and Tel Aviv, the images depict Niagara Falls at night illuminated by multi-coloured lights projected onto the falling water.
Since graduating in Australia with a degree in Theatre Design he has worked primarily in television as an Art Director but now focuses on his art practice. Adam Robinson is represented by Select Gallery in Notting Hill, has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and art fairs both in London and New York, and has been highlighted by Rebecca Wilson, chief curator at Saatchi Art, as One to Watch.
