27 JUNE 2022 - 14 JULY 2022Notes
Adam Robinson’s work reflects his passion for colour, found materials and the processes of collecting and arranging. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources with architecture and the built environment being particularly influential.
The found and sometimes forgotten materials he uses, with their strong sense of nostalgia and history, are a further source of inspiration and fascination to him. He aims to transform these objects such that they exist in a more contemporary and ordered context with a clean, vibrant aesthetic.
In this work, ‘Bird Portraits’, Robinson displays a collection of original, vintage booklet covers arranged on canvas. The items are card collecting booklet covers produced in the 1960’s by the Brooke Bond Tea Company. The graduated arrangement emphasises the direction of the falcons as they apparently swoop downwards, while the introduction of acrylic crystals gives the repeated images a contemporary feel.
Since graduating in Australia with a degree in Theatre Design he has worked primarily in television as an Art Director but now focuses on his art practice. Adam Robinson is represented by Select Gallery in Notting Hill, has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and art fairs both in London and New York, and has been highlighted by Rebecca Wilson, chief curator at Saatchi Art, as One to Watch.
