Studio Sale | Adam Robinson
27 JUNE 2022 - 14 JULY 2022Notes
Adam Robinson’s work reflects his passion for colour, found materials and the processes of collecting and arranging. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources with architecture and the built environment being particularly influential.
The found and sometimes forgotten materials he uses, with their strong sense of nostalgia and history, are a further source of inspiration and fascination to him. He aims to transform these objects such that they exist in a more contemporary and ordered context with a clean, vibrant aesthetic.
In this work, ‘All Over the World’, Robinson displays a collection of original, 1960s atlas pages arranged on canvas in a geometric pattern. Circles have been cut from the centre of each segment and the remaining image raised, forming a three dimensional aspect. Swarovski crystals have been placed on towns and cities drawing inspiration from the glowing population centres seen in photographs of earth taken from space at night.
Since graduating in Australia with a degree in Theatre Design he has worked primarily in television as an Art Director but now focuses on his art practice. Adam Robinson is represented by Select Gallery in Notting Hill, has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and art fairs both in London and New York, and has been highlighted by Rebecca Wilson, chief curator at Saatchi Art, as One to Watch.
