Notes
Coastal Field is from a series of five images, by the award-winning photographer Amelia Lancaster, that focus on cornfields near Padstow in Cornwall.
The heads of corn, a sliver of blue sea and a vast clear sky dissect the coastal view into three abstract bands of colour. It was this framed view of the majestic cornfields, a source of inspiration for many artists throughout history from Constable to Van Gogh, that fascinated the photographer. It became a view that she revisited throughout the year to document the ever changing seasonal landscape as it rose through a spectrum of colours and textures, from green shoots to rocky dry soil.
Amelia Lancaster is the winner of the Be Smart About Art Competition (through The National Open Art Exhibition) and her photography has been widely exhibited including in Fresh Perspectives: New Photography at Saatchi Art and Grey Score at The Courtauld. It has also been published in ICON Magazine, The Times, The Architects Journal and even on the front cover of Pil Magazine.
