PFND x Aluna Collective
25 NOVEMBER 2022 - 11 DECEMBER 2022Notes
“Inspired by travels and coast path wanders to cliff-edge viewpoints, looking down on the surf and listening to the sea foam waves fizz below. To me this perspective encapsulated a dream adventure day, threading along the coast, dipping down to sea level, and climbing up again for another view. I consciously wanted to keep the dappled warm tones of the plywood revealed, it enlivens the liquid layers of blue and turquoise shallows.
It’s an honour to collaborate with Plastic Free North Devon. This project and bellyboard auction feels a wholesome blend of art and advocacy for our environment. The passion and awareness that PFND brings to our local community regarding our seas, shores, and consumer lifestyle is so valuable. I’ve proudly run my art business for several years, definitely without single use plastic, if not completely plastic free. I worked alongside PFND in creating easy swaps and shifts in my suppliers. My canvases are bespoke, handcrafted locally and delivered without plastic packaging. I am able to make informed supplier decisions based on how they package and courier their goods to me.
Coast path walking, sea and river dipping is where the majority of inspiration flows from. On these walks, I forage chalky rocks by streams, grinding and mulling into my own oil pigment. It’s another plastic free process and way of channeling the earth and experiences into my art. Sustainability in my work is an ongoing practice and it’s a huge thanks to Plastic Free North Devon for pushing local businesses in the right direction.”
