Notes
Meadow is one of a series of three exploration works by the artist Katie Spragg that investigate the different ways of immersing the viewer in a moment. Each piece from the series represents a different natural landscape: a hedgerow, a forest and a meadow. The Hedgerow was purchased by the Victora & Albert Museum for their collection in 2017.
Katie Spragg is based in London, and graduated with first class honours in BA 3D Materials Practice at Brighton University in 2010 and then later completed an MA in Ceramics & Glass at the Royal College of Art in 2016. Following her successful MA at the RCA Spragg went on to take part in a residency at The Scottish Sculpture Workshop in September 2016. It was here that, through her observations of the surrounding countryside, the artist found the inspiration for the series.
Working in collaboration with woodworker Geoffrey Hagger, Spragg developed these beautiful back-lit objects that transport the viewer to moment within a distant landscape. Lit from within by a small light, the scene is filled with the warm and rich atmosphere of a late evening or early morning.
Katie Spragg combines clay with a range of processes including animation, illustration and installation to create work that aims to arouse curiosity. Whether through sharing a story or conjuring a collective memory, her practice highlights the forgotten sources of joy and amusement that surround us.
Katie Sragg is also including Kathryn's Walk in the auction.
