Natan Dvir’s Platform series captures the artist’s observations of people waiting on New York City subway platforms to convey the irony of how individuals experience isolation within a city of 8.5 million residents. A native of Israel, Dvir was struck by the ways people in New York avoid touching. He positions his camera on the opposite subway platform of his subjects, with the station beams framing commuters as if in individual filmstrips to speak to this disconnection.
Natan Dvir’s work has been included in exhibitions internationally, including at the Georgian National Karvasla Museum in Tbilisi, Georgia (2014); the Museum of the City of New York (2013); the War Photo Museum in Croatia (2011); and the Museum of Contemporary Israeli Art (2008). His work has appeared in numerous publications such as The New York Times, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Der Spiegel, and The Daily Mail.
