Artist Introduction: 
MATLAKAS, (Italian, B. 1982), is a multidisciplinary artist based in London. His art spans various mediums, from paintings to performance art, street murals, and sculpture. The topics of his paintings blur the lines between inner harmony and chaos. His use of bold colour and explosive scenes are both original and unique, bringing a wave of optimism and humor to contemporary art. 

MATLAKAS's work is a captivating dance of opposites, transcending boundaries with its moving and emotional impact. His prolific and uniquely stylish art tributes the Italian masters, whilst remaining completely unique. The artist is currently in South Korea on commission and has an exciting calendar to be revealed in the coming months in collaboration with Liquid Mirror.

Each painting in the collection encompasses it’s own unique characteristics whilst maintaining a common ostinato of intrigue. The works in this collection fuse his study of classical sculpture and Renaissance painting, with abstract embellishments.  

‘Turning Point’ is the Magnum Opus in the series of paintings surrounding war, whilst ‘Technohuman’ and ‘Hidden Frequencies’ are a pair of works that fuse futurism with classicism. ‘You Are the Air you Breathe’, ‘Looking Above - Higher and Higher’ and ‘Full of Life’ form a trio of feel-good works that were created to bring optimism to the ‘cycle of life’. 

The artist's paintings are conduits of genuine connection. They each possess a mysterious magnetism, destined to find their rightful collectors.

Accolades: 
His eccentric performance pieces are often intertwined with his paintings. From dressing a military tank in Hello Kitty Pyjamas in Ukraine and making national news to walking the streets of Manhattan with melting ice creams on his face, MATLAKAS’ projects regularly go viral. The artist most recently caught the eye of Netflix HQ where he was commissioned to paint a mural. 

The artist studied his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture at the University of Fine Arts, (Naples, Italy) and Goldsmiths University of London. MATLAKAS also holds an MA Social Sculpture from Oxford Brookes University.
