Notes
My artwork looks at my identity and family history. I take inspiration from old family photographs, gallery, and museum trips to develop my vocabulary of pattern designs. The characters in my paintings are faceless, this is to help the viewer connect with the idea of knowing about distant relatives but never meeting them in real life. I am particularly interested in the history of Dutch wax textiles a signifier of African textile. I specialise in oil, acrylic, collaging fabrics, and screen printing; this is to use various techniques to create my own textile paintings. The process of painting patterns is also therapeutic for me and helps me to focus my attention to one thing.
