Notes
Last year was the 130th anniversary of the Society of Scottish Artists. To mark this the society loaned works by ten of it’s most celebrated and prestigious past members and invited 10 contemporary artists to make work in response. Gill Walton was chosen to respond to the sculpture of Victor Hugo by Rodin. This piece was then hung in the Royal Scottish Academy building (November 2022 to January 2023) alongside the original bronze by Rodin.
“It was the greatest honour to be selected to show next to a Rodin! My art degree was in sculpture and I remember visiting the Rodin museum as a student and being in absolute awe at the power of his work. I hope I reflected some of that power and gravitas in this piece, which is in essence, a very human and moving piece.”
Gill is a professional member of the Society of Scottish Artists. After a lifetime in her field she has had work selected for many prestigious exhibitions and you will find her work in collections worldwide, including that of one of the worlds foremost collectors, the Duke of Buccleuch.
