Notes
“I have witnessed two close friends with breast cancer endure chemotherapy and radiation treatment. My mother's best friend who was like an aunt to me sadly passed away from the disease. Support for those experiencing and close to those suffering from this disease is so important.” - Kate Shaw, 2020
Kate Shaw is an award-winning Australian artist who spends her time working and living between Melbourne and the US, having exhibited in Australia for 23 years and internationally for over 10 years. Recent exhibitions include ‘Surreal Sublime’ San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, CA, 2019; ‘Under the Subway’, Museum of the Moving Image, NYC, 2019 and ‘Continuum’, Mosman Art Gallery, NSW, 2019.
Her work reinterprets notions of what constitutes landscape painting, both within an art history context and a contemporary social context, reflecting upon the contradiction between our inherent connection to the natural world and continual distancing from it. Prominent themes in Kate’s work include alchemy and environmental change.
