A Private Curatorial Tour for up to eight people of "Looking for Leonardo" at Dulwich Picture Gallery
An exclusive private tour for up to 8 people with Assistant Curator, Dr Lucy West of Dulwich Picture Gallery's upcoming display; 'Looking for Leonardo: A Renaissance Puzzle' (23 July 2024 - 26 January 2025) includes a glass of white wine or non-alcoholic beverage on arrival.
'Looking for Leonardo' will unite some of the oldest paintings in the Dulwich collection, many of which have not been on display for some time. These include works once thought to be by esteemed artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Hans Holbein and Jan Gossaert. Hung together, they will tell a story of the European Renaissance which is unique to the Gallery’s history.
A key work in this display will be is 'Salvator Mundi', which was once attributed to both da Vinci and Holbein. This wood panel painting has not been seen by the public for years due its fragile condition. It will be presented after extensive conservation work and dendrochronology tests, which we hope will tell us how old the wood is, when the tree was cut down and where it came from, which will be hugely helpful in identifying the artist.
Dulwich Picture Gallery is the world’s first purpose-built public art gallery: it was founded in 1811 when Sir Francis Bourgeois RA bequeathed his collection of old masters “for the inspection of the public”.
