Alex McIntyre creates abstract landscapes using ink and gesso on marine ply. The journey of each painting starts with walking, running, observational drawings and ‘fast’ photography. She says, “I want to capture the sensory root of an experience so that a viewer is able to recognise their personal visceral understanding of the landscape and be reconnected with it”. Alex’s paintings invite you to pause, contemplate and breathe.
‘Solace I’, is the first in a series of works exploring the comfort and refuge of the natural world. It has its beginnings walking the North Yorkshire Moors with enormous skies and waning light. It speaks of the consolation and liberation of walking alone with a sense of the vastness of the world. The painting catches at the point of exhilaration where, once all other ideas and distractions have become irrelevant and diminished, one’s primary experience is of body and breath in landscape.
