Alex McIntyre creates abstract landscapes using ink and gesso on marine ply. The journey of each painting starts with walking, running, observational drawings and ‘fast’ photography. She says, “I want to capture the sensory root of an experience so that a viewer is able to recognise their personal visceral understanding of the landscape and be reconnected with it”. Alex’s paintings invite you to pause, contemplate and breathe.
‘Liquid Light II’, is the second in a series of works contemplating qualities of sunlight and atmospheric water. The light is watery, bleached and blue. The image is one from memory, capturing the sense of running through and within a spring landscape in Hertfordshire. The sharper marks at the bottom of the painting are created by carving into the surface of the gesso and pushing ink into the recesses.
