Notes
Gerry Dudgeon’s ‘Coombes and Copses’ is a beautiful tribute to the rolling hills of the Dorset coastline. His bold outlines create a stage set of scenery that draws the viewer down the twisting valleys, past a secluded farmhouse and out onto the shore line.
Crisscrossed with pathways and ancient ridges and furrows, this calm setting touches on the rich history of humans and animals within the landscape - a Jurassic landscape that, just beneath the surface, has its very own history and abundance of fossils and prehistoric minerals. The permanence of which, as the artist describes, “contrasts with the impermanence of the cliffs, which are constantly eroding.”
