Deptford Contemporary Presents - Edwin Rostron
06 JULY 2022 - 28 JULY 2022Notes
Painting by Edwin Rostron currently displayed at his solo exhibition “Fragments” at dept.con.temporary
The works on display in this exhibition come out of a time when Edwin was continuously trying to shift his practice into some new territory. The drawings were made quickly and spontaneously, often taking the form of imaginary portraits or abstract compositions. The animation works are mostly very short loops, also made very quickly, utilizing whatever drawings or other materials that were to hand, and usually shot on a phone in between other activities. These new paintings have developed out of this period of experimentation, and mark the beginnings of a new direction in Edwin’s practice.
Edwin Rostron is an artist based in London, His films have been shown at film festivals such as Ann Arbor Film Festival, onedotzero, LSFF and Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation. In 2013 he founded Edge of Frame, a blog and screening series focusing on experimental animation, holding events at BFI Southbank, Barbican, Close-Up and Whitechapel Gallery. He has taught at the Royal College of Art since 2016 and has been a visiting artist at CalArts, UCA Farnham and Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
Proceeds from this auction will go towards sustaining dept.con.temporary’s community focussed programme of exhibitions, screenings, discussions and residencies; helping to create supported opportunities for artists and makers to show, discuss and develop their practice.
