CAMPO Benefit Auction 2023

Artwork Description
Currently, I continue working on extending and exploring my own artwork through investigating the possibilities offered by cutouts from paintings and the shapes that emerge from them. Redrawn, enlarged, simplified, complexified, and so forth.

For these paintings, I generated the cutouts from memory, inventing them; they are shapes already integrated into my nervous pictorial system.

In contrast to the explosion of saturated colors, the rhythm they propose isn't a frenetic one but rather slowed down by the absence of gravity. There are no articulations between parts or collisions; instead, each one is left to its own vitality, moving across an independent plane.

Bio
Santiago Velazco (Montevideo, 1976)
Santiago Velazco Studied art with Enrique Badaró and later with Fernando López Lage at the Contemporary Art Foundation. Was part of the graphic collective Nispero. Studied engraving techniques with Jorge Galaviz. Has participated in various collective and solo exhibitions in Uruguay and abroad (Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Belgium, Canada, and the United States).
