Bio
Born in 1981, Rodrigo Sassi currently lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. He graduated in Fine Arts at FAAP (Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation) in 2006. The beginning of Sassi’s artistic career is characterized by the development and practice of urban interventions, using and experiencing the city as a reflection and inspiration for his work. This research conducted on urban interventions became a reference to aesthetic and conceptual three-dimensional, space-oriented sculptures. Taking influences from architecture and the urban setting, his body of work is created by the relations between these areas and the visual arts, using construction materials and techniques to make structures that act within the space creating its own architecture. Frequently made of found, raw materials, these abstract forms mirror the contrast between brutality and rigidity, but also create the feeling of lightness. The sculptures provide organic shapes that intervene and transform the surrounding space. As a result of using found materials his sculptures are strongly connected with the local environment and also establish themselves as an extension of urban space.
