Artwork description
I took this photograph during a long exposure workshop in Ireland in 2016. It was 6 am on a small beach below a cliff near the city of Cork. It was incredibly cold. We were wearing hats, gloves, scarves, layers upon layers. Suddenly, a man arrived with his dog and, as if it were summer, he took off his clothes, put on goggles, and dove into the water to swim. His faithful friend climbed the stairs and stared at him for at least 45 seconds of the 4-minute exposure of the photo, then ran off to get a better view from another place.
Bio
Teodelina Detry (Buenos Aires, 1975)
I'm a visual artist who paints, takes photos, and constantly travels without the need to leave my studio. Today, the camera is my ally in facing adventures in the relentless pursuit of expanding and connecting with everything around me. I studied Art Direction, painting, and photography in Buenos Aires, New York, Madrid, and Geneva. Since 2017, I've been participating in national and international exhibitions like BAphoto with Zona de Photo gallery (BA), Mundo Nuevo Art Gallery (BA), Otra Feria (virtual), Helsinki Festival (Finland), Cecilia Caballero Gallery (BA), Galería del Infinito (BA), ArtFest 2022 at Campo Garzón (Uruguay), Galería del Paseo (Uruguay), SPArte with Mario Cohen Gallery (Brazil), and Galerie Espace L (Switzerland). In 2020, I published my first authored photography book, 'The Anemone is a flower that opens at the slightest gust of wind,' and that same year, I received the 'Book Photographer of the Year' award from the International Photography Awards. In June 2023, I did a residency at the Museo en los Cerros in Jujuy, Argentina. If I had to define the essence of my work in two lines, I would say that when photographing, in a silent and poetic tone, what I seek most is to capture small moments of freedom.
