Bid the Gap
01 JULY 2023 - 20 JULY 2023Notes
Introducing Naomi Boiko-Stapleton
Naomi presents an intimate iconography using recurring symbols to reconciles her experience of loss inviting ever-evolving reinterpretations of a personal mythology. Ambiguous cropped scenes hint at possible narratives. These images often depict a dual nature, embodying multiple meanings.
The titles and images are mediated from her memories and conversations she shares with her younger sister as a collaborative process. Naomi uses the medium of watercolour on stretched cotton, its sensitivity allows the work to hint at a forms perceptible outline without reducing it to a fixed image. The space embodies an unearthly presence, appearing and disappearing simultaneously. This evokes an unrepresentable nature and hopes to give physicality to the nuances of depicting a personal relationship with loss and intangibility.
