Introducing Tom Mead
Mead is a figurative artist, living and working in London.
Challenging pictorial space, the fractured and overlapping nature of Mead's paintings convey a sense of life and movement over time, and explores the relationship between traditional painting and technology using 'glitches'.
Film having a huge influence on Tom, he becomes a director in his paintings. This means planning a scene, composing the shot and deciding what would happen over a length of time, with themes such as identity and existentialism permeating throughout.
At the age of 20, Mead became a finalist of Portrait Artist of the Year, and has gone on to exhibit in competitions including the Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize, New English Art Club, Jacksons, ING and was part of the AR London Gallery Trail.
Notable sitters of Mead include Jazzie B, Laura Linney, Axel Ruger, Professor Green, Theo Faberge (posthumous) and Daniel Lismore.
