About

Marguerite Horner is a British artist who won the 2018 British Women Artist Award. Her paintings aim to investigate, amongst other things, the notions of transience, intimacy, loss and hope.

She graduated with an MA in Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School in 2004 and was presented by Sir Peter Blake with the Kidd Rapinet Prize for outstanding MA degree work.

Lady Marina Vaizey CBE wrote the catalogue essay for Marguerite's first London solo exhibition in 2012 at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery in which she said, ‘Marguerite's paintings lift the ordinary into the extraordinary and the specific into the universal… they are about the seen and the unseen, the life behind the eye as well as the world in front of it.’

Marguerite has since exhibited widely in art fairs and group shows including the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011 and the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019. In 2019 Marguerite had a two weeks residency at the Nanxi Academy in Yongjia, China.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

My two watercolours: 'In the Quiet Silent Seconds' and 'Come Down in Time' are studies for a series I am doing inspired by my residency in China and also for an exhibition later in 2021 inspired by the English countryside, called 'Shades of Green' curated by Sandra Higgins.
