About

Louise Reynolds (b.1998) is an artist from Hamilton, Scotland. Habitually reading the news provides a point of departure for her work. She is interested in the bewildering oversaturation of media we consume, and how little of it we can fully understand. Through this she strives to make works with glimmers of the familiar, with the core inspiration slightly out of reach, to form a personal magical realism. She primarily works in coloured pencil, oil paint, and printmaking.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

I drew the four postcards spontaneously, considering the theme of a moment changing the course of your life in an instance. Devil's Advocate represents hearing something you would have been more comfortable without knowing. Once In A Blue Moon is coming to the slow realisation that something you thought you had moved past still lives with you. Beyond Belief is of a fantastical burial cairn, thinking about how the choices in your lineage contributed to bringing you to your present. Finally, Fate refers to the cutting of the string of fate in mythology, thinking about how some random life changes will always remain unexplained. Through all of these drawings runs my reflection on womanhood, and how often all four of these thoughts sit with me.
