Notes

About

Nottinghamshire based artist, Cynthia Harrison Orr has worked in surface design, set up and run a ceramic tile design and manufacturing company and delivered community arts projects alongside working as a curator. Cynthia now concentrates solely on her drawing practice, recently completing The Royal Drawing School’s postgraduate Online Drawing Development Year. She is a member of Studio 22, formed from the cohort of ODDY 2022 at The Royal Drawing School.

“My practice is an on-going personal investigation into the meaning of art in an effort to understand what I do and why, and how it may relate to others.

Drawing for me is an emotional and physical experience. I have to be in a place where I can connect to whatever is around me, looking intently, triggering my access to the natural world, opening up memories, everyday experience and imagination. The work has figurative and abstract qualities using colour and pattern to create an image that is both real and imagined. I have no plans or perceived outcomes. The act of drawing takes over in a meditative experience. I hope that the emotion invested in the work resonates with others. Creating images to share is a crucial part of my practice. It feels solid, providing me with a purpose and a path to follow.”
