About
Salisbury’s paintings reflect on western standards of beauty and the idealisation of women and femininity within the field of advertising and mass media. The artist tweaks and manipulates found imagery from aspirational fashion and lifestyle magazines, particularly focusing on the modelling campaigns of luxury brands. The resulting paintings distort her source material and present a anarchic and dystopian view of the capitalist dream. She says: “Using gestures which explore the borderland between a substance that is alluring in its thick luscious texture, and grotesque in its ability to turn to chaotic mush, my paint-handling and synthetic colour palette seek to at once allure and repel the viewer.” In recent bodies of work Salisbury has sought inspiration from ancient mythology across multiple cultures. The artist is keen to reimagine and explore the role of female protagonists throughout multiple narratives and histories.
Education
She graduated from the Turps Banana Studio Painting Program in 2018, having previously completed her MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art (2016).

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
"Candy Floss and Toffee Apple" takes its genesis in an editorial photoshoot for Gucci, the high end and unequivocally coveted international fashion brand. The sunglasses which originally spelt out "LOVE" have morphed through the paint handling to remind me of toffee apples, a red sticky mess that look a bit like molten lava, and the head-dress reminds me of candy floss. The image is nostalgic of memories from halloween and childhood. The model is ghoulish. There is something sinister and haunting - tinged with a lingering feelings of a fairground and fireworks night all intermingled into one.
