01 APRIL 2022 - 25 APRIL 2022Notes
Barbara believes that through the intuitive application of paint and layered surfaces, she can more immersively draw the viewer into the psychological narrative of her work. Any mistakes, doubts or hesitations that occur during her artistic process are laid bare before the viewer; Wesołowska highlights them as being a record of her searches for the final product. Her work focuses on the psychological guise of female portraiture. Wesołowska’s work is strongly influenced by religious iconography that she was exposed to growing up in Poland.
Barbara Wesołowska is a Polish figurative painter based in London. She holds a double MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London (2015) and the Wrołcaw Academy of Fine Arts, Poland. She ha also completed a BFA in Painting at the Slade School of Fine Arts in London (2013). Recent exhibitions include: Apple in the Dark, Harkavik, New York; The Vapours, Bamburg Kunstverein, Bamburg, Germany; In the Flesh, Peles Empire, Berlin; and A Wind in the Door, Runpeltstiltskin, New York. She graduated from the Slade in 2013 and the Royal College of Arts in 2015.
