Notes

‘The name of this work “Orosmomentet” refers to a Swedish compound word where ‘oro’ means ‘worriment/unease’ and ‘momentet’ translates to ‘the moment’.’- Emeli Theander

Emeli Theander’s interests are not only based on the subject matter of her drawings, but also the emotions that arise through the execution of her work. Her drawing method is associative. Often she mixes images from art history with her own inner collection of experiences, memories and dreams to create works that seek to find a balance between opposite poles; be it light/dark, cute/menacing, rough strokes/fine details.

Emeli Theander was born in Sweden in 1984 but has lived and worked in Berlin since 2003. Between 2006-2012 she studied fine arts at the UdK Berlin under Prof Valérie Favré. In 2014 she received the Dorothea Konwiarz scholarship and in 2013 the “Merkel collection and foundation prize for painting, Rhein Neckar Delta”. Her work has been exhibited in several solo and group shows including in Berlin, Paris and The Hague. Emeli Theander is represented by Galerie C (Neuchatel / Paris) and Galerie d`Ys (Brussels).
