The opening line of William Blake’s Auguries of Innocence “To see a World in a Grain of Sand” provided the impetus to try and build a world of clay. And that is what Anthony Fagin did for 20 years until his recent retirement from making large ceramic worlds. The worlds are glazed in such a way as to create an impression of volcanic craters, lava flows and meteorite strikes. They were exhibited in several sculpture gardens (eg the Hanna Peschar Sculpture Garden, RHS Garden Rosemoor Great Torrington Devon, and various National Trust gardens), and are to be found in several private collections. Worldaway is a smaller version, appropriate for either indoor or outdoor display.
