An Art on a Postcard Mini Auction in Collaboration With The Bomb Factory
12 MAY 2022 - 26 MAY 2022Notes
About
‘I love technology, but I also hate it. Every new gadget gives me hope that maybe it's the one that will change my life. But it never is.'
Hugo Lami looks at paradoxical and surreal contemporary pop culture and contrasts it with history and mythology. Painting and sculpture merge in a physical and digital reality that makes the viewer question the absurdity of our times.
Lami's works can never be separated from a physical body, because from his point of view, the real and the unreal are both constructs of existence. The digital and virtual absurdity of our culture is an extension of the surreality of our own minds and, paradoxically, of life and death. The dialogue between nature and our cultural and technological development is the subject of Hugo's fiction and forms the basis for his painting and digital sculpture.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
Taking nature as a starting point, Lami uses biomimicry to inject humor into the landscapes of his fictional realities. In the artist's aesthetic, this results in creatures that have both human and animal characteristics, and landscapes that are not limited by form, space or time.
The surreality of Lami's work is extended through the use of augmented reality, turning his paintings into virtual sculptures. The app developed for this purpose is constantly evolving. The painting itself in its physical form becomes just a frame, while the work in its digital format can tell a more complex story by allowing the viewer to interact with the art through their smartphones.
Please do not bid on artwork in our Art on a Postcard auctions if you intend on selling the artwork after you have purchased it. This auction has been organised for charity and all artworks have been generously donated by the artists to raise money for the Hepatitis C Trust. When the work produced for the charity is sold on the secondary market it damages our relationship with the artist and prevents us from fundraising.
