An Art on a Postcard Mini Auction Curated by India Rose James
07 APRIL 2022 - 21 APRIL 2022Notes
About
Harriet Gillett’s work playfully circulates around themes of identity, belonging and our relationship with myths and nature. Working from sketches usually made from life, she infuses these with a rose-tinted palette that becomes pollutant and muddied through the process, to visually blur the boundaries between what is ‘real’ and what is remembered. She employs a variety of experimental mediums and processes, often bringing together seemingly incongruous materials or subject matters to suggest unexpected harmonies, such as layering the more traditional and organic oil over modern acidic spray paint, or melding watercolour pigment to suggest fluidity.
Education
Harriet holds a BA in English Literature from Edinburgh University and is currently studying an MA in Fine Art at City and Guilds of London Art School.
Select Exhibitions/Awards
Current shows include Delphian Gallery at the Saatchi Gallery, and Blueshopcottage. At the moment she is working towards a two-person show at Soho Revue as well as her degree show. She was shortlisted for the Ingram prize in 2020.
Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
This watercolour is based on a snapshot of a larger painting I am working on at the moment, which explores the idea of the pub and live music scene as a place through which to form community and feel belonging that is outside of the religious sphere.
Please do not bid on artwork in our Art on a Postcard auctions if you intend on selling the artwork after you have purchased it. This auction has been organised for charity and all artworks have been generously donated by the artists to raise money for the Hepatitis C Trust. When the work produced for the charity is sold on the secondary market it damages our relationship with the artist and prevents us from fundraising.
