Notes
Antony Haylock, who works under the name 'H', studied graphics in the 1980s and teamed up with the artist Pez to produce artwork for the first flyers and art installations of the late 80s UK Rave Scene. The duo quickly rose to fame and became one of the foremast artists for the genre produce large scale murals and installations.
As the 1980s Rave scene legalised and developed into the UK club scene, H was employed to bring the urban, 'gritty' feel of the illegal warehouses to the interiors of the leading clubs throughout the country.
With this growing popularity there became a constant demand for bespoke commissioned murals and paintings. These works challenged H’s skills to explore new directions in medium and style, providing a great foundation for what lay ahead.
As with many of his artworks, the artist combines punnery and surrealism in the titles of his artwork to add tongue in cheek humour and provoke dialogue between viewers.
"Using humour, as I often do, coupled with my love of enamel objects, the jugs served as the perfect vessels to experiment with word play. In this piece the title is what creates the dialogue and questions from the viewer as to what I am saying or, what they perceive me to be saying… therefore applying their own choice to be offended or not by the work… if you wish to be offended, be offended, nothing happens!"
