A line in the sand: an artistic response in support of humanitarian efforts in Gaza
03 JANUARY 2023 - 31 JANUARY 2024Notes
About the artwork
Inspired by past projects where I used debris and waste materials to make some new, to take apart and reconfigure. To see potential in something that’s been discarded. The circles feel like rotating cogs, interlocking with the border of rectangles, and then in turn, influencing their order. This piece feels reflective of action > consequence. The weapons that are being used and the absolute horror that unfolds on the people of Gaza. All happening in real time.
About the artist
Always using block colours, Sophie Rawlingson plays with composition in her new series of painting, inspired by her three dimensional sculpture work using waste materials. Repition features a lot in her work, whether drawn, digital, or in this case, painted. Always with a youthful feel, the lines are wonky, the work feels spontaneous and free flowing.
